Taxi fares will increase by 14% starting in October, unfortunately, for Taipei, Keelung, and New Taipei City. For seven years, the taxi fares in the Greater Taipei area have never been adjusted, and now this big adjustment is also going to affect other cities in Taiwan such as Taichung, Kaoshiung, and Tainan. Taichung will be going under debate upon the same issue in August. And Kaoshiung and Tainan will fathom over the topic at the end of the year.
The Taipei City Public Transportation Office has stated that the adjustment is only in the onward journey and standstill part of the fare. Therefore, the starting fare is still 70 NTD, but for every 200 meters, from now on, the meter jumps 5 NTD; and at every standstill, the meter jumps 5 NTD every 80 seconds.
Another fluctuation in transportation, is the Taipei City Bus fares. At the beginning of next year, the price of conveyance will be measured by kilometers instead of by "sections"--pricing system modeled after HSR and Taiwanese Greyhound Buses.
